Thank you to everyone who came out to EdTech Impact Investor Night last Thursday, December 5th at the Centre for Social Innovation! It was truly a great evening of innovators, investors and other stakeholders coming together to deliberate and present some of the most pressing issues in EdTech.

Here is a brief overview of the event for those that were unable to attend!

We had five amazing panelists moderated by Ash Kaluarachchi from Socratic Labs and other firms represented on the panel, which included School Yourself (John Lee), Socratic Labs (Priya Garg), InnovateNYC (Preeti Birla) and Brainscape (Andrew Cohen). Among the topics discussed included the current state of the funding landscape and the types of capital that are currently available, which ranged from VC investments to grants from foundations.  Additionally, John Lee of School Yourself discussed the option and ability to sustain an EdTech startup through current cashflow in tandem with grants. Preeti also discussed the public perspective on the inclusion and implementation of technology to create the impact that EdTech is intended for.

The panel was followed by a special presentation of  Teq, an innovative learning company dedicated to championing the evolution of the modern classroom. Leveraging robotics, Teq seeks to expand the field of learning and discover innovative ways of including this new technology into the education industry as a whole.

The evening presentations ended with three fantastic startup presentations by GradTrain, Kinvolved and OpenSchool ePortfolio.  All three of which did a great job and sparked interesting conversation from startup founders and investors alike. If you were there and want to support any of these startups, you can vote for them here.
